Also known as
Ertacetal
Basic Properties
High strength, good wear properties and a porosity-free product. Has excellent machinability properties and has good creep resistance.
Common Uses
Acetal is a very hard and stiff plastic with extremely good mechanical characteristics.
Having excellent creep resistance and dimensional stability it is ideally suited to precision gears, bearings, snap fit assemblies and due to its low water absorption, is used for parts that operate under water between 60 and 90 degrees celsius.
It has excellent dielectric properties and is also used in electrical insulators. Acetal is more rigid than Nylon although it has a low melting temperature and has a low impact strength.
Its chemical resistance is good but not as good as Teflon.
